Between the months of June and December, the Nuevo Gulf is the place with the largest concentration of Southern Right Whales in the world. We colloquially say that the Gulf is the largest nursery for curious whale calves. Don't miss a trip to see these incredible marine creatures, who will surprise you with their powerful leaps and tail-swipes. This type of whale watching is carried out on boats with capacity for 20, 30, or 40 people. Excursions depart only from Puerto Pirámides. Departures have predetermined schedules that depend mainly on tourist demand and weather conditions.

Advantages of whale watching from a boat-
The chances of seeing whales are greater from a boat, since this means you go in search of them (while on the coast you wait for them to arrive). Most of the time, sightings take place at a very short distance, watching the whales pass by the boats.

Departures depart daily from the port of Rawson (a typical fishing port). We begin by sailing toward the mouth of the Chubut River, stopping a short distance from the sea lions, allowing us to observe and share a unique moment with them. We also learn about bird identification such as oystercatchers, cormorants, great and black-backed shags, crested and shoveler ducks, kelp and brown-hooded gulls. Depending on the season, you can observe different species of terns, herons, gauca, skimmers, and more.

Diving and snorkeling with sea lions is one of the most captivating experiences offered by the clear waters of the Golfo Nuevo. Puerto Madryn, declared the National Diving Capital, is located 15 km from Punta Loma, a rookery for South American sea lions (Otaria flavescens). The boat departs from Puerto Madryn for Punta Loma at high tide. After a 20-minute cruise, you reach the diving area. Once there, whether with a snorkel or scuba gear, you'll enjoy a natural interaction with the sea lions, an amazing experience that provides direct contact with one of the most sociable marine mammals. The excursion lasts 3 hours, with 45 minutes in the water. No swimming skills are required (the neoprene suit provides safe buoyancy), and is open to children ages 6 and up.
